Early Days - The Great Sidecar Adventure

Paul B on his Dnepr 650

The Great Sidecar Adventure is currently bunked down in the township of Bila Tsverka in the beautiful Ukraine. We are waiting for the final preparation of the Dnepr 650 sidecars that will hopefully carry us through the rest of the adventure. The bikes are being prepared in a workshop that is a bunker of some kind at a disused Soviet era air force base on the outskirts of town.

The group has spent the last few days buying up additional gear for the trip, checking out the bikes and generally getting to know each other. The plan to travel through Syria has now been abandoned and thought is being put into a revised version for the later part of the trip.

The hope is for all 20 bikes to set off on Monday 2nd May to head for Vinnjcja about 150km southwest of our present location.

Ukriane is coming into a beautiful spring with all the trees in blossom and tulips starting to blossom. The locals must love their vodka - the supermarkets have entire isles of vodka, there is chilled vodka in the cold food section and it is common to see half a litre of vodka ordered with a meal. It is so cheap that you will see half a botttle left behind when the meal is over.

Our main wish at present is that the bikes will reliable carry us through the Ukraine to the Romanian border.
